    Hello,
I have an .avi file that has French subtitles, I was wondering if I can remove them?

Ive tried the MSU subtitle remover, but that took over 6 hours, didnt work and left over 65,000 .bmp files on my PC.

I know how to add subtitles but cant find out how to remove them from a file.

    Thanx in advance.

There is no good way to remove subtitles. The best I have seen simply blurred the area where the subtitles were, which looked like crap and was more annoying than having the subs there. If you can't find a copy without them, live them would be my advice.

I'm not surprised at all. While I have never done this, I've seen the results of video where someone removed a TV logo, which is a very similar procedure. It looked exactly like guns1inger says. I've taken a look at the MSU subtitle remover website and I'm convinced that the photo "examples" they have are doctored and the product does not in reality work any better than any of the similar products people use in VirtualDub. Well, at least the MSU product is free.

  6. Try Puremotion. It's knockout filter is very good on subtitles. Works differently from other filters. Basically it takes an area you define, and then you match the color of the subs, usually white, and then it removes that color. That way it does less harm to the area around the subs then other methods.

    Take a look here:

    http://www.puremotion.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2656

Delogo can remove subs pretty well, but puremotion is the best on subs.

As far as MSU's logo filters, they are TOTALLY worthless. Don't waste your time with them!
