Are the subtitles soft (can you switch them on or off), or are they burned into the video itself?
If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them?

You have a DVD. Put it in your DVD player. Start it playing. When it begins the movie, use the subtitle button. If they turn off, your problem is solved. If they don't, you will have to re-encode the movie leaving a blurry pixelated mess in place of the subtitles.

so how do I re-encode the movie and you say it will leave a blurry mess where subtitles are so by re-encoding takes subs away

Of course they will not turn into a blurry spot or vanish if they are hard subs by JUST re-encoding.

    https://forum.videohelp.com/topic366077.html

On the FIRST page of the CORRECT forum

Took me all of 30 seconds to go there and look down the page, and that was without even using the super secret hidden search function Baldrick has hidden on the site 8)

Natty, read Noahtuck's posts slowly again. When you posted, you first went to an index of forum topics. (You could not have written your first post otherwise.) Your choice was to write a post under the Newbie > General Discussions forum, when you should have first looked down the index list and gone into the Subtitle forum. In doing so, you would see that your questions have already been answered, many times over.

And Noahtuck said it could be done "...WITHOUT even using the super secret hidden search function Baldrick has hidden on the site." (My capitalization.)

Also: like Guns1inger said, if you can turn your subtitles on and off in either the movie's menu settings, or with the Subtitle button on your DVD remote, then the subs are soft and can be taken off. If not, they are hard subbed and you will either need to blur them out or just go and BUY a domestic release of the movie.

I will make one attempt with this. natty - the search function is at the top center of the page in the forums. See at the top where it says "VIDEOhelp.com Forum"? Two lines under that is the Search function.

However, there is one dirty little secret that you will be expected to miraculously know, but no one (but me) will tell you. Search is broken in individual forums and only works if you do it from here:

Geez, it took me all of 15 seconds to find these in the Subtitles forum:

    https://forum.videohelp.com/topic366077.html?highlight=remove%20subtitles

    https://forum.videohelp.com/topic362806.html?highlight=soft%20subtitles

Anyway, the first step of your question was already answered in this thread: Determine whether you have hard or soft subs through the instructions given in mine and Guns1inger's previous posts.

And next time you want to start a thread about subtitles, do it in the Subtitles forum.
