Is it true that it is no longer possible to remove windows media player and use Media Player Classic instead?
Even when I try to just Make Media Player Classic the default for opening .mpg files, the change doesn't stick. Double clicking on files always opens Windows Media Player instead.

Actually, you can disable WMP, I have done it on several computers: http://www.tech-recipes.com/windows_tips1503.html

I've seen windows get "confused" about the default player association. The symptom was exactly the same -- no matter what program I tried to make the default for MPG files, WMP would be used. I think I fixed it by completely deleting the MPG file assosiation and setting up a new one.
