Recently I've been converting AVI files to VIDEO_TS and burning them to DVD using Easy DVD Burner. I have been doing this without a problem and when I insert the DVD into my DVD Player the DVD starts up fine.
Today I tried to burn a DVD the same way as usual, but when I inserted the DVD into the DVD Player a menu came up with 4 VOB files labelled VTS_1_01, VTS_1_02, VTS_1_03, VTS_1_04. I thought I did something wrong so I burned the DVD again, but the same thing happened.
Could somebody please give me a brief tutorial on the best way of converting an AVI file to VIDEO_TS then burning it to DVD?
Thanks in advance.

Sounds like the dvd player thinks this is a data disc. DVD-Video needs VOBs, IFO and BUP files inside a VIDEO_TS folder (see https://www.videohelp.com/dvd ).
In effect you need to convert the AVI to DVD-compliant MPEG, then author it into IFO, BUP and VOB files. A number of "one-click wonder" softwares merge these two steps into 1 but they are two exclusive and equally important steps.
If you don't want to think about it, convertxtodvd offers relatively good results with minimal effort. However, if you want to do the job properly then you can't go past a dedicated encoder such as TMPGEnc, CCE, Quence or HCEnc (and there are others). http://members.dodo.net.au/~jimmalenko/AVI2DVD.htm walks you through using TMPGEnc, but the concepts explained there are the same no matter what encoder you use.If in doubt, Google it.
