Hi every1...I'm new to this awesome site.

I have 2 questions actually: first one is...some avi's (some xvid and some divx) I've downloaded have bad and low audio, when I play them on my laptop or divx player.Question is how can I get rid of the noise and make the audio better/louder??

My second question is: I have 2 avi's downloaded and both have mp3 audio...they play on my laptop,I burned them to data and play them in my divxplayer...but I have no audio. When I turn up the volume very, very high of my tv I do hear some,anyway...I have lots of files with mp3 audio
and they play perfectly in my divx player (phlillips 5140...quite new, like 3 months old, plays divx and xvid)...so this got me puzzled...coz when I put the burned cd back into my laptop I have audio...I really don't know what the problem is,so I wanna try something else....How can I convert the avi (with the mp3 audio) to ac3 audio that's more dvd/divxplayer friendly??

    thanks in advance

ps: I did some searching before I post this, but could not find an answer...so if's I'm spamming than I appoligise

First question - chances are, you can't. Whatever cleanup you do will likely be undone once you push the volume up. Without hearing a sample it is difficult to be specific about how you might approach the problem. Such is the risks of downloading.

Second question - I would demux the audio from the avi files, open it in an audio editor and see how it plays. If it is OK, fine - re-encode it as CBR MP3 and replace the original audio with the new one. Just the act of re-encoding might fix the problem your player obviously has with the file. If the audio sounds low or odd in the editor, you can try to fix it. Again, without samples it is difficult to be specific.

I use VirtualDub Mod most of the time for extracting audio. Using full processing in 'Streams', you can save out the audio as a WAV, then use that with ffmpeggui to convert to AC3.

If you want to filter or adjust the audio, the freeware Audacity accepts WAV and MP3 audio. You can adjust the volume and filter as needed, then output MP3 or WAV audio. If you want to add it back in, then use 'Add' in VDM. VDM can also adjust the volume. Or you may just be able to re-encode the audio with VDM if it's not MP3 VBR and adjust the volume then. Save the audio with full processing and the video with Direct stream copy to a new filename and you are done.

    And welcome to our forums.

All my files that I download I burn them to data and then play them in my divx player phillips 5140,that I bought 3 months ago.It plays everything except mpg4 files.
And I really needsome help here before I freak out .
this really is mindbugging.I tried converting it to avi: no audio, just video!
    I encoded the audio to ac3: didn't work...no audio,just video.
I burned it as vcd in nero: same problem.
I have another file that has exactly the same audio codec and when I burned that one and played it on my divx player it played fine.

    Both are mpeg-1:

Ok,here's the file that won't play on my divx player:

And here's the file that plays fine on the divxplayer with the same audio codec:

Given they both appear to be standard VCD files, I can only suggest one is corrupt. As they are VCD files, you could author them to DVD without reencoding. You just have to resample the audio to 48khz. Both DVD Lab Pro and Tmpgenc DVD author will do this for you. If they fail to process the file, you know it's the file at fault. If they do process it, you can watch it as a DVD.

Could you tell/show me how you sorted it out?

I seem to have a similar problem on one of my videos. The file: XviD/Packed Bitstream/Max consecutive B-Frame = 2/AC3 48K Hz. It plays fine on my pc, but no audio on the Philip DVP 5140.

    Thanks.
