    Hello again
This time I need a suggestion for a asf wmv fast converter
I have no problems reeconding with other formats but I do have an issue of speed with it comes to asf and wmv file formats.
Any ideas what software are capable of do a fast conversion never mind the quality the originals are not that good anyway

Depends if WMV 8 is good enough for you.

    ffmpeg -i input.avi -vcodec wmv2 -s 640x352 -b 1000k -acodec wmav2 -y output.wmv

That runs at 90-100fps on a 3Ghz P4, depending on the dimensions of the input file.

Edit - Nope, forget it. It isn't stable enough.

From recollection wmav2 encoding support was only added somewhat recently. Previously it could only decode.

I get the impression though that drwho meant converting from asf/wmv. But then they didn't specify what they want to convert to.

Virtualdub-Mpeg2 handles WMV. some files still need an Avisynth script to open and VFR files can cause sync problems.

The most reliable way I've found is to drag and drop a WMV file into TMPGEnc and save to AVI or MPEG. I haven't had sync problems using this process.

You can also open the file with Virtualdub-MPEG2, add filters and do editing and frameserve to TMPGEnc and save to MPEG or AVI.

Thank you for replying so far
My intention is either to convert to mpeg or avi
I have tried vitualdub mpeg but not with great success perhaps it was my attempts to trim the files while encoding into Xvid the last time although I have not Avisynth on my pc.
I have not tried TMPGEnc Express is the version I have.

Try this app - Winmenc . It is really easy and fast, especially to create Xvids.

TMPGEnc XPress can open wmv/asf directly. Problems may only occur with low/variable framerates and with 'unseekable' files (this can be corrected e.g. with ASFTools). In hard cases it's better to first open a file in AviSynth.
