I have a series dvd where I want to keep original menu, edit a few buttons and keep only 2 of the 4 episodes (cutting it to 2 episodes per dvd). I am having a problem. I tried what I thought was correct and when I went to play the dvd, menus worked fine, but there were no episodes...haha.

Here is what i have showing in dvdremake under VTS1:

    Program chains 6550.61 Mb
    PGC1 6557.69 Mb
    PGC2 1628.32 Mb
    PGC3 1653.23 Mb
    PGC4 1659.20 Mb
    PGC5 1618.03 Mb

Now what I previously had done is only kept PGC 2 & 3 and hid PGCs 1, 4 & 5. When I hit the play button on the main menu, it went to play but then just had a blue screen. When I hit the episodes button on the main menu it brought me to the episodes menu. When I then chose an episode (either one) again up came a blue screen and no video? What am I doing wrong here?

My reasoning for only keeping PGC 2 & 3 is because those are the 1st 2 episodes on the disc. Even after hiding 4 & 5 the disc size was 7000+ Mb. So I then deleted PGC1 and that brought it down to fit on one dvdr. What I am looking to do is to get the 2 episodes on 1 dvdr and then put the other 2 on another. Can anyone help me out?

  2. Hi-

What am I doing wrong here?

Your list of PGC sizes total more than even a DVD9. Obviously those sizes are incorrect. They won't have the complete 4 episodes on the DVD once, and then each episode on again separately. Either they're on once as the entire 6550 MB, or on separately, at roughly 1650 MB each. The 6550 MB one is obviously the Play All button, or the Play button, and then each one separately is so you can go to the episode you want.

My guess, based on what you said, is that the PGC 1 is the only one with any size, and the PGCs 2-5 are 0 Byte files that just point to chapter points within PGC 1.

Here's what you do; go back to VobBlanker which you already gave up on. Load the DVD, hit the VTS containing the episodes, so that they appear in the lower screen, and either show us a pic of what you see, or maybe figure out yourself what's going on. Look for PGCs with no size.

If I'm right about what VobBlanker is going to show you, then you blank not by PGC, but by cell from within the PGC 1. Here's how to do it in VobBlanker:

    http://dvdguides.netgeekhosting.com/guides/blanking/

Scroll down to the cell blanking section at the bottom.

Later, after you get it figured out, you fix the buttons in the menu so you can't click on episodes that no longer exist, and the Play button will play only the 2 episodes on each DVD. You use PGCEdit for this. Or MenuEdit, but the good version costs money.

Those were the numbers directly from dvdremake of the imported series dvd.

No PGC 2-5 are as list above all above 1600 Mb

So, learn how to interpret what you see. You do not have 13100 MB of data on that DVD.

Got a VobBlanker pic? I could have guessed wrong. It could be the PGC 1 with no size. After all, even DVDRemake shows you the correct total size:
    Program chains 6550.61 Mb

  6. I requested you post a VobBlanker pic (twice):

Personally, I have no use at all for DVDRemake, although I know a lot of people swear by it. I find it less than intuitive, and your thread kind of proves it. I sympathize with you, since what it is showing you in no way helps you to figure out how to remove 2 PGCs from the DVD. In fact, it seems to encourage you to do it wrong, resulting in a non-working DVD.

Maybe on this DVD some of the blocks are used in different PGC (otherwise they wouldn't in total excess the shown DVD size) and when you hide all blocks in a removed PGC you blank some blocks in a PGC you intend to keep. To find the right blocks to hide you can select VTS1 'program chains' line in DVD folder structure (I mean DVDRemake) and in the right pane the blocks will be shown in order they appear in the original video file. Then you will be able to use 'hide blocks before/after this' option. The rest is disabling unused buttons in the menu as usual.

Ok so I need someone familiar with dvdremake. The only thing I can't figure out is to how to set up at the end of each episode to go back to the 2nd menu(episode choice buttons) instead of the main menu(play all and episode menu buttons). I have it working to the main menu, but for the life of me can't figure out how to go to the 2nd menu instead?

You can edit post-commands of the PGC for your episode. Select that PGC in the left window and click Post Commands on the right, then right-click the field with commands to get edit menu. If the menu you want is inside the same VTS1, you can use 'Call VTS menu' command and specify menu type (3 for root menu). In simple cases (when there's originally a single post command) you just replace it with a new one, otherwise try to explore what the original commands are used for. If you want to go somewhere outside a VTS you have to call a VMG PGC.

The command I want it to go to is still with in the same VTS, but it's not the root menu. So I guess I wouldn't use 3? So would it be something the like 'Call VTS menu" and then another # instead of 3? and if so how would I go about finding which number I would need to put?

You could use "3" to go to the ROOT menu, then in the ROOT menu, add a PRE command to LINK PGC to the correct menu.

NOTE: Set some GPRMs so you know when to link from the ROOT menu to the other menu in the VTSM

I'll give that pre command link a try. I have no idea what you mean by GPRMS?

In DVDRemakePro terms -- the variables that look like R[0] or R[1] are your GPRMs (there are 16 of them that you can use for VM Scripting -- but if you use DVD Authoring with an Abstraction Layer, then some of those GPRMs are probably already in use by the AL -- PGCedit has a nice function to show you GPRM usage/availability).

    George

  15. Used GPRMs are marked with "*" in DvdReMake Pro (just open a command editing dialog).
