I hope someone can give me some pointers and help me out here. I've been using ffmpegx all this while quite flawlessly for .rm file conversions to divx format.

However, I've encountered problems to get ffmpegx to recognize .avi files. I thought that any .avi file that mplayer could play should be able to be read in by ffmpegx, is that correct? I'm puzzled why my .avi file is able be played by mplayer os X gui but when I drop it into ffmpegx, it says unrecognized format, no video, no audio?
I've also checked that I do have a recent mplayer binary file in Library/Application Support/ffmpegx folder.

  2. Well, since avi is only a container format it could contain almost anything. And not to seldom does it have the extension .avi, but is in fact a .wmv or similar. If it truly is an .avi and ffmpegX doesn't recognize it it most likely doesn't support this codec that mplayer does, but that's a much rarer scenario in my experience.
