I've made plenty of DVDs succesfully using Nero 6 but I recently decided to put all the .avis I had onto a VCD. However it keeps failing after it done the transcode and goes onto the burn section. Ive tried different CDs etc to no avail. Below is some output from the error logs, any pointers gratefully recieved.

I guess its something basic like my recorder wont do VCD, but please be gentle when that jumps out at you with it obviousness!

There are some internet posts elsewhere that suggest that this is a bug in the drive firmware. It has to do with DAO vs. TAO and the scsi command set used by the burner.

A firmware update might fix it.

he's using the same drive as you.

If you use Nero, instead of burning after coding, make an iso of the disc, then burn the iso as an image file.

Thanks chief - I upgraded the firmware from 1.5 to 1.8 but it still failed. Then I noticed that it didnt have "disc at once cd overburning enabled", or "enable generation of short lead-out" in the preferences. Hope that helps other people searching for answers, and thanks dnix71 for taking the time to provide me pointers, it was whilst following those links you provided that I stumbled upon discussion of overburning etc that pointed me in the right direction ref the prefs. Mucho aprciated!
