  1. This is the LG HL-DT-ST DVDRW GWA4080MA rev AE38

    I submitted this as a new writer, but the only tech page I can find is the general Apple pre-sale info. http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/specs.html
    This is from a new 15" MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo model with the DVD burner.

    This is the super-slim form factor (9mm) with slot loading and EIDE.

    It is slightly different from the other LG GWA-4080 in that it can burn DVD+R DL
    Unlike the LG GMA-4080N it cannot write DVD-RAM. I wonder if that function can be unlocked?

    Here's how Apple describes it:
    6x slot-loading SuperDrive (DVD+R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)

    * Maximum write: 6x DVD-R and DVD+R; 4x DVD+RW and DVD-RW; 2.4x DVD+R DL (double layer); 24x CD-R; 10x CD-RW
    * Maximum read: 8x DVD-ROM, DVD-R, DVD+R; 6x DVD-ROM (double layer DVD-9), DVD+RW, DVD-RW; 4x DVD+R DL (double layer); 24x CD

    Here I post the output of DISCInfo:

    This is an LG oem drive. It has firmware unique to Apple.

    Check the LG Burner Forum on

    www.cdfreaks.com

    to see if there are hacks for the Apple Firmware. You may discover it can burn at 8x.
