HD DVD FILES? could you please give us the details of the files. What container like, avi, ts, mp4, ? What video and audio codec? What resolution? Identify with gspot or mediainfo.

But most dvd players doesn't support any hd material.

  3. My guess that the resolution is too high. You'll need to re-encode down to 720 by 576 or lower resolution.

FWIW My Phillps is the same way.

  6. The specifications for the mediacenter PC will depend on what you want to do. OTA analog, OTA ATSC, How it connects to the TV.

Do you only want to play back clips to the TV? Then a Media center isn't really needed. Just a TV with for example VGA input so you can hook it up and use it as a Computer monitor. Want to record from OTA then you need a tuner card, dual tuner would be best. Watch one record a different one. Decide whether analog only or analog and digital.

Record from cable or Satellite in HD. Then you'll need to find a card that accepts for example Component or HDMI input and has a IR blaster that can control your box. Not a cheap task. You can't connect the coax out on those boxes and ghet anything but SD.

Have you looked at DVD and DVD resolution clips played through a upscaling player on a HDTV? Could be good enough. That depends on your TV size and other factors. I find I'm happy with NTSC or PAL resolutions on my HDTV (32"). YMMV

Many here are happy with the Oppo upscaling player, do a search. Good Luck

So far I haven't seen any content on any HD DVD or Blue Ray that I would even rent let alone buy. What are the last DVDs I watched? The Doris Day show and Laugh-In and the Go Go's.

from Satellite TV Showtime and HBO HD channel once in a while. the older stuff from Monsters HD and Universal HD and HDNet and the networks more often. Movies that way would be Please Don't Eat the Daisies, Rodan. Shows from NatGeo HD, A&E HD, Discovery HD, World HD and so on. I'm not expecting any of them to be on a HD Disc anytime soon.

I also watch the Networks in HD and a lot of SD content on other channels. The content just isn't there for me to want a HD player.
