    Whenever I try to play any video the picture is very dark. I used the vlc player to take a snapshot and the picture for that was normal. I have the xvid and divx codecs install, the lastest driver for my video card.

    My pc is running win2000

    I've noticed that with Windows Media Player - the same video will look much darker in WMP than if played in VLC media player.

    That said, WMP does have a brightness/contrase setting (but this doesn't work with wmv files).

    Sounds like an overlay problem. Check your graphics cards advanced settings for video and see if you can change the brightness.
