I can't wait to see this film. Don't know anything about the comic book but I've heard of the legendary story.

I'll see it when it comes out and if it's as good as it looks, I'll most likely pick it up in some HD format when they realease the video. I've watched the HD trailer from the PS3 network and I agree, it is visually stunning.

Although it's not entirely true to the history behind that battle it's still going to be a phenomenal film. I've had the novel for several years and was pretty damn excited to see it follow up Sin City. I'm hoping they do an adaptation of Ronin next.

I'll be going to see 300 at the local Imax next Saturday 8)

Blackfilm spoke to "Stomp the Yard" director, Sylvain White, about him directing Frank Miller's next film "Ronin."

Ronin tells the tale of a dishonored 13th-century samurai who is reborn in a corrupt and computerized 21st century New York to face his sworn enemy, the ancient demon Agat. On a bleak and decaying battleground, the two foes wage a final war: to settle past debts, and for the soul of a dying civilization.

Here is a clip from the interview:

At what stage is the film at now? Is there a script in place and if so, who wrote it? "It's putting these elements together. We are working off different scripts and trying to polish them. We are working off different versions that we got a couple of different authors. There's a really nice presentation that goes with it. It's basically saving the world back and forth and looking to develop it further once we set it up with Warner Bros. They have a first look deal on the film after the project was placed in turnaround. I found out recently that a few years ago New Line Cinema was supposed to put out a Ronin film with Darren Aronofsky attached to direct. That was over 5 years ago."

How many characters from the comic book do we expect to see on film?"I would probably say all of them. We are condensing very little characters. We have to condense the plot a little bit because it goes back and forth a lot between different time periods and there's not enough time in the movie. It would have to be a five hour film to get everything in, but in terms of characters, all of key ones are there."

Saw it, really enjoyed it. I'll probably pick it up in Hi-Def when it's released. The cinematography was great and I liked the story.

Saw it on Saturday. WOW! One of the greatest movies I have ever seen. Remember, this was one of the only societies in the world that did not have slaves. In fact, many of the residents were escaped slaves and gladiators. Favorite quote from the movie. "Freedom is not free" Never has been, never will be! I'm a huge Braveheart fan, but this flick is light years ahead of anything i have seen yet.

I'm undecided whether I'll see it or not. I've always had this niggly about Peter Graves' line in the movie, "Airplane," when he asks the little boy, "Hey, Joey, do you like movies about gladiators?" - that people who like such movies may have gay tendencies (grin).

Seriously, though, I'll probably see it before it ends its run. And if I like it, I'm kind of hoping they can somehow get the rights to the History Channel special, "Last Stand of the 300," and place it on the same DVD release. The film is fact-based fiction but I'd like to see the facts along with the fiction.

I broke down and saw it this afternoon. They had two screens showing it at the theater I went to ... and when I went in to my auditorium, I was surprised to see that I was (ahem???) alone. A few more people showed up before the film started, though.

Some very powerful acting from some very unknown actors. I do hope they're remembered at the next Oscars. All in all, I had a very enjoyable time. Of course, after leaving the theater, I had an immediate urge to drink whiskey, eat red meat, and go to a local gym to watch bodybuilders.

P.S. to what I posted yesterday. I forgot to mention it. There was one part in the film where a theater patron interrupted with laughter, saying, "Oh God, a smallpox vaccination." I glanced at the screen and, sure enough, someone talking to Leonidas had a clearly visible and circular smallpox vaccination scar on his upper left arm. I guess the filmmaker figured people would think it was just a war scar (grin).

  14. The only movie I've seen in about 5 years that was worth the price of admission.
