  1. Hi guys.
My video bitrate is 9.6 mbps. I know its too large but i dont have the time to re-encode it. VideoCalc showed it as the max. bitrate so i entered it in HCEnc not knowing that it was excessive. You see my DVD Burner is on my laptop and my source Avi's are on my desktop pc. So i have to transfer the files every time i want to make a DVD. I want to use DVDPatcher and let MuxMan author the DVD even with such a large bitrate. How can i do it? normally MuxMan gives error of excessive bitrate.

    Thanks.

  2. Well, your bitrate for video is still in specs (as max bitrate). If your audio is ac3 or mp2 i think you may have success authoring in muxman.
I think you have a message "multiplexing failed. Probably due to excessive bitrate" in muxman. Then DVDPatcher rather will not cure the problem because it will change the value of the max bitrate written in the headers of the file only and the multiplexing will fail at the same place miserably.
If you have an ac3 file as audio source try to fix it with Ac3Fix.
I had a case where the source was commercial DVD. Demuxing with rejig and muxing with muxman would throw this error, but demuxing from the disc with DVD Decrypter and muxing with muxman would not. Why - I don't know.

  3. Yes, forget using DVDPatcher to lower the bitrate, as it only changes a number in the header, and can't change the actual bitrate. If you've already tried to author, and got that excessive bitrate error, your only recourse is to reencode the audio for a lower bitrate and try again. And there's still no guarantee it'll work. Maybe HCEnc doesn't honor the bitrates you set. I don't know as I don't use average bitrates that high. If that was your max bitrate, and you haven't tried to author yet, you might still be in luck.

With even one buffer underrun, Muxman doesn't give you anything useable. You might try and author using IFOEdit. It'll complete the job unless there are too many buffer underruns. The DVD might play jerky at those places, though.

Your post is a bit unclear. Did you already try and author this video? And what's the bitrate of the audio?

  4. @Abond: Yes I get that exact message in MuxMan. Also my audio file is AC3. I will try using AC3Fix.Though i think delaycut would have detected any errors since i used it to adjust audio delay. Thanks for your reply.

@Manono: 9.6 mbps is not my average bitrate. It is my Max. bitrate. My average bitrate is 5 mbps. I have already tried MuxMan and DVDAuthor GUI. Both dont author successfully. My audio bitrate is 384 kbits/s AC3 converted using Aften. I will try IFOEdit.

Thanks for your quick reply guys!

  5. Well, the fact that muxman and dvdauthor both failed is really not good. I don't know how you transfer the files to the laptop and if it has something to do with the issue, but you can check if you can author successfuly on the desktop. You can also try to multiplex using let say ImagoMpegMuxer and demultplex with Dgindex for example to see if the resulting files can be authored successfuly. If your ac3 comes from Aften I think it should be ok.

  6. I cant author completely on desktop as i dont have much space. I did start and suspended the authoring process. The resultant incomplete vob files can play on VLC. Does that mean anything?
I transfer my files through a network cable.
