try playing it off a cd -- converting it to dvd specs will further degrade the picture ....

Let's see. Which of these phrases does not belowng with the others

    Good Quality
    KVCD
    WinAVI

That's right, children. KVCD and WinAVI cannot be used in the same sentence as the phrase Good Quality, unless the sentence begins

What is the antithesis of good quality ? To which the answer is, of course, KVCD and WinAVI.

KVCD is just a very low bitrate encoded VCD, a poor format made worse, in other words. I don't why anyone uses it when you can get higher quality at twice the resolution from Divx/Xvid. Combine this with a poor quality encoder like WinAVI, and you have a recipe for visual pea soup.

    1) Because they don't know that Divx/Xvid offers better quality AND resolution.
    2) Because they have been suckered into believing KVCD's nonsense about how "great" the quality is.
    3) Because it's a holdover from the old days of say 5+ years ago when DVD burners and discs were ridiculously expensive and there was a real interest in jamming as much movie as possible onto a CD-R. Early Divx was nothing like it is now and while I'd argue that even bad Divx was better at the time than good KVCD, KVCD was arguably easier to use than Divx for inexperienced people. I am not kidding when I tell you that you might be surprised at how many clueless people still think that DVD burners cost $500 US each and blank DVDs are maybe $4-5 each. I run into these people all the time. They are suckers for KVCD because they honestly have no idea how cheap DVD is now.

Nice post. I certainly got a kick out of reading it.

no its because me being on demonoid and not being able to find a xvid copy of 300 looking better than a kvcd more people got the kvcd because they said it is better quality and no people in the way of the movie
