    Hi!
I am trying to export a PAL 4:3 quicktime movie from Premiere Elements, using "Export movie", since I want to decide the dimensions myself. But whatever codec or PAR I use I get the wrong aspect ratio of the exported movie, and when I analyze the file in Quicktime Player it says 720x576 (which is normal PAL size) or sometimes it says another dimension in paranthesis but the aspect ratio is still wrong on my screen.
    Anybody knows why?

What does it look like ?

Remember that 720 x 576 is PAL 4:3, but this is for non-square pixels.

It's squeezed a little bit so that the width has shortened (or height increased) - towards - a square.

It sounds like it is being played back with square pixels. The pixel aspect ratio has been set to 1.1, instead of the correct PAL ratio.

QT --DOES-- respect AR flags (when they're set correctly, it knows how to parse that filetype/codectype, and they're in the usual places).

The new v7x QT player (and pro) shows the "corrected/equivalent" dimensions for square pixels in parentheses, next to the "original" dimensions, when [Show Movie Info (Ctrl+I)].
And it CAN auto-resize the display window, depending on how you have the "Aperture" setting.
This is set if you go:
[Window | Show Movie Properties] (aka Ctrl+J)
and click on the top (container) stream. Then,
[Presentation TAB | "Conform Aperture to..."] and set the dialog box for Classic, Clean, Production, or Encoded.

On review of your situation, if you've got PAL 720x576 and it's 4:3, you shouldn't have to do any "modifying" of the AR. Since you are, I think that's where it's going wrong.

720x480/4:3/NTSC and 720x576/4:3/PAL both play back as 4:3 in QT on my computer here (IOW, yes, they're both resized to a 4:3 equivalent box for square pixels).

    Thanks, but...
    I don't have the QT Pro player so I can't access Ctrl+J.
And my clips are squeezed also imported to embedded QT players.
I guess I would have to change the dimensions manually, but I resist to do that; I want to have it clean all the way.
And I have tried both 1:1 and 1,067 PAR, it shows up the same.
