It can record any off-air HDTV broadcast and the output of any digital satellite receiver or A perfect companion to an integrated HDTV is a D-VHS VCR. ED-Beta offered even greater luminance bandwith 500 horizontal picture elements. I will give you a sample of ED Baby!!!

How is different than recording SD S-VHS or Hi8 off a SD S-Video port?

BTW, that 17+ year old deck requires metal partical tape to reach 500 lines of horizontal resolution. I doubt you can buy that tape anymore. L-750 SuperBeta tape (300 lines fast speed) costs around $8-9 now for 90min.

What is your point? A Hi8 camcorder would do about the same or better if you aren't using metal tape. Hi8 tape is $2-3 and widely available.

It is possible to use recycled Betacam tape (oxide not metal) in Betamax players according to this site but performance will still be 300 lines or about 20% above VHS.

Great as in 20% better than VHS and below Hi8 or SVHS?

That particular semi-pro deck is supposed to be a good for editing Betamax.
