  1. Hi,

I am trying to convert a dvd to divx and during the process I have to use Virtualdubmod to crop the movie. But when I open the dummy avi, it gives me the following error,

"Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'vifp' (unknown)
VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. Direct Shoe codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable. Only 'Direct stream copy' is available for this video."

    What to do?

    Thanks

    What dummy avi ?
    How was this created ?

Why not use VOB2MPG to get the program streams from the DVD structure, then open this directly in virtualdubmod or virtualdubmpeg 2 for cropping ?

    http://www.geocities.com/goodsharer/?200711

All I want is to have a avi(around 700mb) of my dvd(4+ Gb).

Any guide that recommends VFAPI isn't worth following. Page is listed as last modified Sep last year, so it isn't really that old either, so no excuse.
