    Hi

I wanted to rip a DVD onto my computer and compress so that it has a samll size and very good quality. I found this website: http://www.geocities.com/goodsharer/

So I followed it but I get an error when using Virtual Dub Mod.

The picture attached has a screen shot. I am a total newbie so I dont understand much. Can you please help. I tried to search for a Vdeo codec for Windows but I couldnt figure it out.

    Tanks in Advance

  2. you sure your source is a dvd? usually get those errors with windows media files (wmv, asf etc). however assuming virtualdub mod is somehow having trouble opening vobs i would have to assume that you don't have an mpeg-2 decoder installed. These are usually installed when you have programs like powerdvd etc. Since mpeg-2 is proprietary you usually have to buy software that contains it.

  3. I believe there's a batch file in VFAPI that needs to be run before it will work. VFIPSET.BAT, I think:

Yes I used VFAPI and then tried opening the dummy AVI as instructed on the guide.

Thanks for the feedback. I will post back if I cant get it to work.

I wouldn't follow any guide that recommends using VFAPI. You will get better quality with the likes of AutoGK, Fair Use Wizard, etc.
