  1. I'm trying to find a replacement adapter for an RCA DRC616N portable DVD player. RCA doesn't carry them anymore so I need to find something from a third party, but I'm a little unclear on what I should buy. The support person told me I needed a 9V 3amp adapter (which is actually kind of hard to find.) but I couldn't find anything from iGo or anyplace like that for under $90 or so. 3amps sounded kind of high to me compared to what I see for other players, but I guess it could be right.

I've seen a few these units on ebay for sale that I'm considering buying just for the adapter, but I'm not sure if I'd get it in time for our vacation, and would hopefully just be able to find an adapter by itself some where.

Any help anyone can give would be hugely appreciated.

    Thanks - Mike

yes...3 amps sounds high...but maybe that's what it uses
double-check the specs on your adapter...should be somewhere on it...or in your guide
    radio shack may have something

    http://portal.thomson.net says 3watts idle , 70watts full power

so the 9v universal adaptor sold at radio shack will work fine

  4. Thanks for the tips. I don't have the adapter but the unit itself does say 9v, 3amps on it. I emailed a guy selling one on ebay to see what it actually said on the adapter itself, but he hasn't replied. I remember the adapter I lost did have a cord that plugged into the wall, then a 'box/brick', (transformer, or converter) then a wire that actually plugged into the unit itself.

BJ_M: So I shouldn't worry about the amps, just the watts?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm just not sure if I have to match the watts, amps, and volts exactly, or if I can go with another spec.

3 amps at 9 volts is only 18watts .... watts is what is important..

i assume it says something like 9volts, 3amps -- which is almost 20watts and it might peak at 70watts (rarely) -- which those simple 9v battery replacement plugin adaptors can more or less handle ..

you prob. were looking for a 3amp power supply at 120v - which is 360watts ... which would be rare just to find around (though common for 12 and 15 volts for laptops)
