    Hi,

Are there any good DV samples available for download. I don't shoot, but I'd like to try encoding DV.
    I'd like one of each 4: pal/ntsc prog/interlaced.

You can easily create your own DV to play with. All you need it Virtualdubmpeg2 and the Panasonic DV codec. Load up a VOB form a DVD, and save it using Full Processing Mode and the Panasonic DV codec. Et Viola - instant DV (well, almost instant).

There is also a DV sample file toward the bottom of this page : http://libdv.sourceforge.net/
    Read my blog here.

    10 second clip, 16:9 NTSC interlaced, 36MB: http://www.nepadigital.com/reencode/avidv.avi

No audio but the video stream is the original from the cam. Pretty good clip for testing purposes cause it has flashing strobe like lights.

You probably won't find much because of the huge file sizes.

  4. With DVdate you may create samples in DV Pal or Ntsc but always interlaced. I do not know any sample in DV not interlaced. Does it exist?

To do so open any video AVI in DVdate and apply the command "Convert to DV type2" in the menu Convert. The sample will be 4x3 or 16x9 according to the nearest image ratio of the original AVI.

You may also choose the audio :32000 Hz or 48000 Hz, and even the seldom, but legal frequency in the DV standard of 44100 Hz.

You may after that convert the sample to DV Type1.

So you may have samples combinig Pal/Ntsc, 4x3/16x9, 32000/44100/48000, Type1/Type2 that is to say 24 different types of samples.

All this can be done without any specific codec, if Directx is installed on your computer.

Thanks for the info and links.

I have no interest in the files having audio.
I have a preference for dv shot in dv. If needed though I'll use all your suggestions for creating a dv video out of a dvd.

I can't get playback of the dv.
I get error 93 from quicktime and only audio opens in mpc (well silence).
The other short DVs give visuals. I think maybe pond.dv is damaged.
    Can anybody confirm this?

    Tried panasonic dv codec.

I can play the other available .dv files with quicktime.

    Thank you for confirmation.

The club scene is pretty poor. Strobe lights is all it provides.
If anybody can think of any other available samples, it would be nice.

I might end up trying the 'create your own dv" methods suggested.
I also should track down a friend who shoots weddings for some footage.

Actually, its a good test clip for MPEG encoders. MPEG has a difficult time with strobing lights.
