    hello!

I have a little question...does anyone know how to make DVD-samples to have in your main menu (while the user can choose between play the movie, choose subtitles, choose chapters...)

    I use DVD MovieFactory:
I set-up my menus with a background video that I have previously created from sections of the main movie.

Extract the video from the source DVD, edit it in your editor, then output in a suitable format. The best method and best tools depend on your editor and authoring software. I use Vegas to create motion menu backgrounds, then author in DLP.

I peice together a background clip with a running time down to around 15 or 20 seconds. I also use vegas to do my clip edits.

I don't understand your question or what you mean by sample.

If by sample you mean a short clip of highlights from a movie then what you need to do is extract them scenes you want from your DVD, put them on the timeline in Vegas (or whatever editor you like to use), trim them down, and arrange the order (edit them, in other words), then output a new video ready for using in your DVD.

I understand that is what he wants to create. I don't think he understands that he has to build them by hand, piece by piece.

Try Windows Movie Maker - very easy to handle. And output to DV avi.

No tool can guess what scenes you want to include in your sample.

If you want to start off with a single clip, without peicing anything together, download dvd shrink and use shrink to "grab" a short clip/segment of the movie and use that for your background.
