Is there a free program or at least a decent trial that will convert video into .gif images for like a forum signature? I can't seem to find anything and i don't know how everyone converts their videos into .gif files for animated pictures.
    can anyone help?

  2. I use Ulead Cool 3D. The free trial's good as well. Post back if you need any hints on how to use it for making gifs.

Ulead's Gif animator will accept AVI's too, both aren't free but the giff animator is about half the price. Both have a free trial I believe so if you only need it for this......

Having said that any length of video is going to be quite large of a file, wouldn't bother me but is a killer for those on dial-up.

SUPER can also create Gif97 files for avatars. Be aware that many avatars need to be 256 colors or less to keep the filesize down and ones like those on our forum have a filesize limitation of 10K and a maximum size of 80 X 80 pixels. One program you might try is the freeware 'Avatar Sizer': http://www.tucows.com/preview/357312 It can reduce them in size after converting. A animated avatar similar to the one I use is about 10 colors and 7 sequential images and about 4K filesize and 35 X 64 pixels in size.

Do you mean a program to cut out clips? VirtualDub Mod works for MPEG and AVI type formats, but only outputs AVI type video. Or you can use most any MPEG editor. Cuttermaran is free and there are a few others in 'Tools' to the left under 'Video editors".
