Hello all, I would like to know what I would need t broadcast a live event like a hockey game on my school website. Can we use DV cameras, capture cards... I am new to this stuff and I would like to know what type of investment we are talking about here. I am not looking for something professional but something decent for parents to logon to and watch the game.
Thanks in advance

It comes down to how many can watch at once. If the number is over 2-4 people the prices go vertical. Next step, find a sponsor because it will get very expensive.Originally Posted by pasfins
Do you have a local public access cable channel? Are they equipped for live broadcast?
That is your homework assignment due next Friday. -
Wow so many questions and not may answers. We are looking at more that 5 person online for sure. we are not in a urban area so basically I was hoping to use the bandwith to stream it. Now I guess the question is how much bandwidth I need. As far as the equipment is concernened, I could not use a DV cam for example, a capture card and broadcast it on windows media player. Yeah I know too simple but I thought I 'd give it a shot.
So can you clarify what hardware is needed and I will figure out the bandwidth...?
Thanks abunch -
Capture and production of a tape is relatively easy. The hardware part is easy. Are you saying you don't know how to do that part? Live distribution is expensive. What bandwidth do you have? Have you talked to your school internet sysop or his internet provider? What do they say?Originally Posted by pasfins
PS, a typical home DSL account is good for maybe 64 to 768Kb/s uplink. Not enough. So you need to find external bandwidth. -
For the Bandwodth, we have got 2 lines, both 6Mb/sec and we could add another one if needed. What hardware would I need to be able to do a decent broadcast.
Thanks
