I was watching a movie last night and halfway through it the sound cut off. it was almost as if I had blown a fuse in my receiver. i've got an old Sony STR D790 with my dvd player running into the "video 1" jack & my game consoles running through the "video 2" jack. I ended up switching lines with my games consoles in place of the dvd player and the "video 1" line works just fine. when I ran the dvd player into the video 2 jack I got the same result, no sound.
so, is the Philips DVP 642 known to short circuit? i've got an older model which I bought almost 2 yrs ago and have had zero problems with it until now. are there any solutions to my problem or am I shit outta luck? I have no problems buying a new one since they're pretty cheap but if I can salvage my player I'd like to do that.

Definetly sounds like a hardware issue. Most likely would require a technician to fix, but it wouldn't be worth the cost. Cheaper to just get a new player.
You could always try using one of the other audio ouputs, if possible.
