I am getting a new computer with VISTA PREMIUM. I have Norton 2007 installed on my current emachine. I still have the original disc I bought.

Can I install it on the new computer and purchase a new, seperate subscription for the new computer? I will be keeping it on both computers at the same time. How is this done?

I looked at symantec.com and saw the option for download or the 5-10 user option. However I already have the cd in hand and would hate to have to download a whole new copy. I'd like to be able to just stick in the cd I have already and then buy a new subscription. Is there an option for that in the installation procedure?

Or do I have to go buy a new cd with a new product key?

    EDIT:

    Buying subscriptions for multiple computers

If you have more than one computer on which a Norton program is installed, you must purchase an individual subscription for each computer that you want to protect.

Subscription licensing does not permit the sharing of subscriptions between computers.

For information about how to renew a subscription, read How to renew the subscription for your Norton product.

    ------------------------------------------

I searched a little more at symantec and found the above. So it looks like I should be able to just use my existing cd for installation. Then I must have a purchase option once its installed. Unless I'm reading this wrong?

Yeah thanks I noticed about that.

I prefer Norton, I've had it for years. I started with the floppy versions. (something like 4.0 back in the early 90's I believe

I did as well, untill i tryed avg and realized how much ram and cpu usage is wasted in norton, but to each their own. Also grats on the new computer but seriously I have heard nothing good about vista yet(a few programmer friends of mine, and a gov. techy). I wouldn't rush out to put that on your computer I would recommend getting XP home or pro and wait a year or so (until they fix the bugs) then get it...
many compatibility issues and problems already..
I would just get xp pro and if you want to look like you have vista add this:

Then slam on vista in a years time..

but then agian, to each their own.

Thanks. I haven't gotten it yet - its still "in process" and not shipped yet. But I'm waiting.

Actually I've heard nothing but glowing reports from a couple of buddies on other forums. They love vista. Well we'll see I guess. But I can tell you I'm not selling my XP computer thats for sure (I definitely want something hanging around that I can know will work for sure with older stuff).

I've been using Vista Ultimate RTM extensively since late November - I have not had a single crash or driver issue. Heck, I don't even know what a Vista BSOD looks like - is it even blue?

There's a learning curve and some things are done differently. I'm using it right now

I *like* IE7, I like the desktop's search capability once you figure it out. It's great to simply press the Windows key and type a command (e.g., regedit).

As a user, I'd give it 9 out of 10. As a software developer, it's created a few headaches - but that's to be expected with a major OS release (Windows 2000 = NT 5.0, XP = NT 5.1 and Vista = NT 6.0) I've ported all my development tools over from XP and have been happily compiling applications on Vista.

Most of the new Norton licenses allow for up to 3 installations. If you register your account with Symantec, the day of the first installation counts as your first day for all the computers you register with that Key. So there's nothing else you should need to purchase.

Yep Viral is right. I got my new pc last night. One of the first things I did was grab my norton disc. It popped up right away saying conflict with VISTA. So I had to download the install file for vista off of symantecs website. Once I got that the install went easily. I gave it my product key off the package and everything worked. I didn't need to make a seperate purchase. Pretty nice
