I must be missing something obvious here, because I simply can not make this work.

I am using GUI for DVD Author 0.99030, and I have gotten the DVD I am making to compile successfully in multi-title mode, with chapters, video previews and all that jazz. Played on PowerDVD, the end result is perfect. However, when played on a standalone player, (I tested it on both a Sylvanna DVD+VCR combo and on a PS2 slimline) there are no highlights on the buttons. Pushing on the directional controls does nothing: no highlight, no activation, and pushing enter or select does nothing either. Pushing the menu button does take me to the chapter menu, as I would expect, but even there, I am unable to navigate the menus.

Is there something dumb I'm missing, like a setting for a default button or something? I am using muxman for the engine, but I can't test it using the other one, as something about png2yuv hates my computer with a passion.

Thank you very much for your help!

  2. No idea. I don't had any problems myself so far with DVDs authored by MuxMan. You can try to use animated menus, but I'm not sure if this helps. If the problem 'persists', you can ask mpucoder directly, but the mpucoder forum is unfortunately not free (IIRC ~ 5€).

Have you tried the new compiled (0.6.13) package? See: https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?p=1638964#1638964

Another 'known' problem with cygwin is outpost firewall (but should be fixed now):

    EDIT:
I don't know if you have any other DVD authoring software (TDA, dvdlab...) where the highlight/navigation works?
If yes, try to create a 'as simple as possible' DVD (only one menu with one button linking to a 1 sec. clip). Then send this to me (should be only 1-2 MB) and I will try to 'rebuild' this with MuxMan (low level mxp editing required). Afterwards we can compare the two 'builds' to check the differences.

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you! I had some computer problems, ended up reinstalling Windows and buying some DVD-RWs while I was at it. I realize you've already released version 1, so I went and tried it to see if the problem I was having persisted. Unfortunatly, it has, but I have narrowed it down a good deal.

Thanks for the tip, that turned out to be the problem. Once I upgraded the firewall, I was able to use the DVDAuthor engine.

The problem seems to be isolated to animated menus using the Muxman engine. Any other combination of menus / engines works fine. I have two sample DVD builds of the same short clip (one made with DVDauthor, working, one made with Muxman, not working), would you like me to send them to you? Where should I send them?

Thank you very much for your hard work!

  4. Yes, I would be interested in the results. Use 7-Zip to pack it all together (including the saved project files). You can find my email in the GUIAuthor.log file if the dvdauthor engine is used (I just forgot to include it in the MuxMan log).
