I own a GE-1101p DVD player, which is supplied with a S/PDIF bitstream output (i.e. electrical) and a TOSLINK output (optical). I recently purchased an Archos HDD mp3 recorder with has a digital line in (electrical, not optical). The problem I seem to be having is with the SCMS (serial copyright management system) which normally prevents one from making a copy of a copy. However, I am unable to copy anything at all, be it DVD's (the sound) or CD's, even ones I have burned myself. The recorder displays "Copy Prohibited!! Is anybody familiar with the digital outputs on DVD players and can tell me if a.) the copyright bit is automatically set to "1", preventing copies from being made via the DVD player, and 2.) if a region hack/firmware update would remedy the problem. Thanks in advance!
