    Hi!
I have an .avi movie file which plays on quicktime, but with no audio. I tryed it on VLC and it plays with audio, so this might be a codec problem. It's a mpeg4, but there's no audio info on it. I already downloaded the AC3 codec and placed it on the quicktime components, but I'm not shure if this is any good. the truth is that it's not working.
I now I can just watch it on VLC, but I really like to use Front Row to watch movies, and it just plays with quicktime...
Any ideas on what I should try?

    Thanks.

In VLC, menu Window>Information>Advanced Information, there is a stream list. Toggle the triangles of stream 0 and stream 1, which should give you information on the video format and audio format. Tell us what codec is listed for audio.

Probably mp3 audio. QT has to be hacked to make it play mp3, VLC doesn't care.

I have a dvr/mp3 player that makes mp4 video with mp3 audio. I use VLC to recode the audio to mp4 so Toast will accept it. If I want to make a regular dvd, same problem. Nobody wants to pay Fraunhofer, including me. The "Jam" license is an extra $100.

Easier to use ffmpeg to convert it to Xvid or DivX. It could be a HDTV format with yuv format which does play any sound in Quicktime. Run it thru ffmpeg and convert it to a standard divX format and it should work.
