  1. I just bought a Samsung Writemaster Multi DVD RW burner (SH-S182). When I burn a DVD with it, the movie exhibits ocassional glitches like a tracking problem, pauses then resumes. I believe the error occurs during the burn stage coz burning the files w/ my other burner (on the same pc) works just fine.

    I've returned it to the manufacturer and they sent me either a new one or repaired item. Still produces the same problem. Must be something wrong w/ the hardware.

  2. Have you tried different media? I have an NEC 3540 that seems to burn my Taiyo Yuden 16x DVD-Rs fine but every disk has a freeze up 30 seconds in when played back. My Pioneer 109 burns these disks fine. And the NEC burns every other disk I have fine.

    Yes ... "just bought a Samsung Writemaster Multi DVD RW burner (SH-S182)"

    And how long did it sit on the shelf before it saw you coming it's way ???

    Check for an update for the firmware of the drive , then check after it's updated ...
    According to info , the drive use's the supplied "Live Update" to perform this function .

    ---------------------------

    Just because something is "new" dosen't always mean it's "up to date" and work as expected .

    Changing media may work ... for now , but not guaranteed in the long term .

    And the above should have been done before returning it for a replacement ... occasionally they send a dud back .

  4. Definitely try a firmware update if there is one available. But even that may not solve you problem. I've updated mine numerous times and still it doesn't burn those TY disks well.

    The hardware/firmware/media are a poor match.

    Update the firmware.
    If necessary use another maker's media.

    I had similar problems on a now deceased Samsung Drive on Memorex 16x media. Firmware update solved it.

  6. Latest firmware is installed but the the problem is still there. When I first noticed the problem I called Samsung. Sent it off to have them look at it. Weeks later they returned it with what looks like a different one coz I had to re-initiate the region. This time they agreed to pay for the shipping so I"m sending it back again hoping they'll actually fix it. I'm glad I still have my Sony.

    Its also possible you have a cable induced conflict. When you are substituting, are you using the exact same connector?

    Ok ... you need to break the post down a bit more .

    You state "the movie exhibits ocassional glitches like a tracking problem" ???

    In playback on pc you mean or other ?

    This can come from a couple of place's .

    Pc related :

    A: Media used might be inferior .
    B: Update vga driver's .
    C: A background running task is consuming memory , during playback ... find and kill it off .
    D: Burn speed RULE'S all other process's ... burn only at half the maximum rating of media ... even as low as 4x would help .

    Home player :

    A: As from pc list .
    B: Beware of + / - ... not all players are compatible with + .
    C: Dont "max" fill media ... some player's have issue's reading toward the end of the disc .
    D: Unit is on it's way out (laser worn) , or laser frequency need's adjustment (they can be adjusted) .

    ===============

    It's a P4 system ...

    What is power supply rating of unit ? ... anything below 450watt's can contribute towards issue's in modern system's .

    ===============

    Burn dvd ?

    Where did the original source file's come from ? ... ripped dvd , or some form of conversion to dvd format .

    ===============

    There's a difference between "video tracking issue" , and "burning to media type's" going on here ...

  9. I ripped a DVD movie with the Samsung drive using DVD Decrypter then burned it with both the Samsung drive and the Sony drive.

    When played back on a stand alone player, the disc created with the Sony drive played fine. But the disc burned with the Samsung drive exhibits sporadic short pauses (no regular interval or pattern).

    The player is fairly new. Purchased about 6 months ago. But it's not the player coz the problem is seen on different player and on exact moments of the movie.

    I've been using TDK DVD-R. This problem is only seen when burning with the Samsung drive. I'm 99% sure it's the drive coz all things equal except the burner.
