    Hi all-
    My samsung sh-s203b DVD writer no longer appears when I double click on 'My Computer' as an active device. It does show in device manager as working properly though!

    Any one else have this problem before?

    Yes, something very similar happened to me a few weeks ago. I had to send my drive back to Newegg.com for a replacement.

    check to see that your sata cable is secured and/or use another sata cable before RMA'ing the drive.

    Turns out is was a firmware update, sb203, that brought it back to life!
