Well, this was news to me this morning when I saw it in an email.
From 2007, the United States and parts of Canada are extending the duration of their Daylight Saving Time (DST).
Daylight Saving Time is brought forward by 3 or 4 weeks in Spring and extended by one week in the Fall. This time change will affect the scheduling of any transcontinental meetings that involve participants in the Daylight Savings Time areas.
United States - DST begins at 2am, March 11 and ends at 2am, November 4
United Kingdom - BST begins at 1am, March 25 and ends at 1am, October 28
Time Difference (US-UK):
March 11 - March 25: 4 hours
October 28 - November 4: 6 hours
Perhaps I've been hibernating but I don't recall hearing anything about this. Apparently, a bill was passed in 2005....

Yes, we apparently let the government monkeys tinker with our clocks too. Now my VCRs will be messed up, along with everything else that could be auto-set for DST.

Why? DST works well for those of us who like to work in the yard.
Where I live right now, it gets dark at 4pm. That's retarded. I'm not even off work yet. I'd hate for it to be that way in the summer too!Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

Lucky I live in Hawaii where there's no daylight savings time. I believe it's the same for Arizona and parts of Indiana.

they should just reduce the working day hours by one instead

Calgary shows 16.5 hour days in the summer and 8 hour in winter. A few years back I lived in Malaysia and Kuala Lumpur shows 12 hour days year round. It was neat at first having no winters but after about a year I really missed the season changes.
Edmonton is only a 3 hour drive north and they show 17 hour days in summer and 7.5 hour in winter. -

I keep telling ya, We need to go to a 30 hour day, 8 day week. Work four 10 hour shifts in a week and have a four day weekend!
I got kin folk in Indiana and I think that they have finally adopted DST (Politics, no practical reason)
To be more effective we actually need smaller time zones and variable DSTs or local business time shifts that relate to local economics and conditions, but what a headache that would be!IS IT SUPPOSED TO SMOKE LIKE THAT? -
