  1. Hey guys; I have been buning VCD's, SVCD's, and XVCD's fo a while but never had any desire to add a Menu. I was playing w/Nero 5.5 after reading the site's how-to on menu creation. The whole process is a snap but the resulting disc does not function as it should. Once inserted into DVD player, I see the menu and can jump to the menu's second screen but cannot go any further. I can toglle back and forth between menus but cannot move on to content. Any ideas?

  3. Only thing I can suggest is to try another DVD player. Nero menues have worked for me on my limited number of DVD players around the house. BTW, what do you mean by "cannot move on to content?" Does the DVD player display the selected track number, but doesn't play? Or, does it just do nothing when you select the track?

  4. Thanx 4 the help guys I have figured it out. Alucard you were correct. From the menu none of the controls on my remote work, instead, I have to press a numerical number to start it (1). From there, it's business as usual. Odd that none of the arrow or other keys will manipulate it... I am unable to scroll or otherwise select tracks, I have to hit a number 0-9 key and it jumps to the track and from there the usual track change keys work. Thanx again.

  5. You can't make 'true' menus like on DVDs, the arrows keys don't work because what you really have an MPEG for a menu. Then you can skip to different tracks by pressing the number for that track. The << >> keys are disabled for Nero's menu's.

You might want to try TSCV for making menus. There's a good guide in the Author section, the program isn't that hard to use (but then again it's not that easy, at first) but you can make motion menus, still menus, multi-level menus (up to 9), intro/exit MPEG, etc. etc. Very very nice.

TSCV is a GUI for VCDImager and it's XML file structure. If you're really 'hard core' you can learn the XML file structure/language (it's not that hard) and do everything yourself.

  6. IMHO, Nero menus are crap.

I strongly suggest you try VCDImager +/- a GUI (e.g., TSCV).

The only buttons you can use on a VCD menu are "next", "prev", "return", "default" and the numerical keypresses (1-99). The default button on a DVD player remote is often mapped as the "play" button.

The cursors you can use on a DVD cannot be used on a VCD. Similarly, numerical keypresses on a VCD cannot be used on a DVD.

For a better understanding on how VCDImager works (and what you can do exactly within the confines of a VCD) read the articles here: http://www.geocities.com/medinotes/vcd or the mirror http://www.vcdimager.org/guides

  7. Thanx for the linx and info guys. The TSCV link that you guys posted; I went to the site, their DL section and their link for TSCV stuffs is dead. Do you guys know of another place I can get that GUI? Is it better/worse (o the same files?) that are posted as a GUI on the VCD Imager site? Thanks alot for the time.
