i have been trying to burn films from my dc 95 camcorder to dvd using pinnacle studio version 8.the program captures the video fine,i can select all the bits of video i want and put them in order but when i burn to dvd it produces a coaster because when i try to play the dvd on my homeplayer(any of the 3 i have at home)the picture freezes.
i have also tried burning downloaded avi's and mpegs using nero 7 and get the same resuylt.
i have tried dvd-r and dvd+r discs and even tried a brand of dvd-r discs that my friend recommended called TUFF DISC.he says he has no problem with them but when i burn anything to them the picture just freezes up.
the other programs i have tried are AVS DVD TO GO,DVDx and image burn.

    can anybody help.

the last suggestion i had was that there was a fault with the authoring
what does that mean and how can i fix it

i only used tuff discs because a mate of mine recommended them.he told me they were one of the best.if id known about taiyo yuden i would have tried those instead but heres my problem i now have a huge range of dvd-r and +r discs sat under my computer table.they have all been recommended by one person or another so if i buy some of these taiyo yuden discs what are the chances of them working?lets face it everybody likes different discs for different reasons

Well if by chance your burner is reviewed here you can see what discs they used and how well they burned. Usually Verbatim -R's are easy to find and seem to work well in most burners.

You could also set the software you use to save to your HD first, don't burn directly. Assuming the resultant files to be in a VIDEO_TS folder, use your software player to see if it works on your PC properly, either 'Play from folder' or click on the VIDEO_TS.IFO. It may not be the discs.

Another test would be to simply copy a known working burn to your media.

What do you mean by didn't work? If you can't play back the authored files off your HD a firmware update is not your problem.

But if it's firmware you want check out this link.

Seems like you got problems all around.

    - Does your set top play burns, yours or others?

    - Have you ever burned a DVD that worked?

You said a friend recommenced the Tuf Discs, have you tried one of his burns? Get a working burn and copy it with your burner and discs.

i have also tried burning downloaded avi's and mpegs using nero 7 and get the same resuylt.
Get the trial of ConvertXtoDVD and try one those AVIs again. Set it to not burn, set it to PAL. It will create a VIDEO_TS folder, use your software player to see if it works on your PC properly, either 'Play from folder' or click on the VIDEO_TS.IFO. If it plays then use Nero Express to burn a disc, choose DVD-Video files option, and see how it goes.

ok i have finally sorted this problem and for anyone suffering something similar heres what i did.

first i updated my firmware here http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/312424
    (BYX5 - patched - crossflashing, multi-colored LED (for 1213S, 1613S, 1653S, etc.)")

then i used ner general clean tool and got rid of all the traces of nero on my hard drive(i had upgraded from nero 6 to nero 7 but hadnt got rid of all the traces of nero 6)

then i downloaded i fresh copy of nero 7 from the nero website and installed it.
i then changed the nero burning rights from administrators to all.

finally i burnt a copy of my video cam film to my hard drive as an avi file using pinnacle studio 8(making sure that the file compression in the settings menu used Intel Indeo(R) Video R 3.2)

i then burnt the avi file to disc using cyberlink power2go and hey presto the disc worked and plays on my dvd player.

i havent tried to burn the avi file to disc using nero 7 yet but will try and see if that works as well.
id like to say thanks to MysticE for all their help with this problem.
    cheers again

Intel Indeo(R) Video R 3.2 is one of the worse codecs around and not related to any thing dvd spec wise -- so still not sure what you are trying to burn except a data dvd with a avi file on it using a bad codec

i am trying to burn downloaded avi files and camcorder film to dvd but when i do burn either of them to disc and play them on my dvd player.
when i play them on my dvd player they just freeze for a split second and then carry on playing.its like someone is pressing the pause button on and off while i watch the film and i dont know why its doing it.

If these are conversions to DVD, try playing the files off the HD first, before the burn. If this works then try the burned disc in your computer. If that works then maybe it's time to try another brand of disc or try burning at a slower speed (4X). The DVD not playing in your set top sounds like a media issue.
