The time will vary. If your source file isn't a dvd spec mpeg2 file, it has to be converted. Conversion time varies by cpu speed and application. So basically, there is no good answer.

A rough average would be about 20-30 minutes if the video is already compliant and Movie Factory isn't reenecoding it.

About an 1:15 to 1:30 if it's not compliant and you have to convert it. *using a 3.0 ghz processor.

There's too many varialbles without more information as to exactly what your computer specs and what you are doing.

And those default "Motion Menus" and transitions can add alot of time -- so watch if it gets slow while doing "menu" stuff...

I usually turn off motion menus and menu transitions (just to speed up the process). If I really want them, I turn them back on and render while I'm away from my machine...

    About 20 minutes on a medium-fast PC, if it's DVD-compliant.

There's s big dif as to individual times in encoding, authoring & burning.
If your capture is not DVD compliant, it all will have to be encoded.

If it IS compliant...then it will just have to be authored.
GeorgeW is right about motion menus they take time too.

Then it comes to burning time.

    Mpeg2 doesn't mean DVD compliant.

Example of one DVD standard compliant, here in NTSC land would be:
    720x480 rez...48khz audio, Mpeg2.
    There are others too.

Encoding will take ages on a machine like that but if the file is compliant you don't have to reencode... Having said that it you have to encode the video the only thing that will speed it up is a faster machine.

Hit the little cogwheel (gear) icon on the bottom left -- do you have the box checked off "Do not convert compliant mpeg files"?

Also, are you editing the mpeg files (like cutting them or something)? If so, then you might be better off Exporting them first, then starting a new project. to EXPORT them, above the timeline there is an arror pointing to the left (Export Selected Clips). Hopefully they smartrender during the export, and then you can start a new project and use the new files...

    Regards,
    George
