  1. Is it possible to disable the macrovision protection on the card? Capturing old movies on VHS to VCD.

  2. I don't know the direct answer to your question, but it might be easier to run your VCR output thru one of those macrovision removers (Sima Colour Corrector or something similar) or use a time base corrector. Also, if you're into building stuff, I've seen plans on the net on how to make macrovision removers.

  3. I'm prety positive that that's possible.

I think I read somewhere that it's as simple as
deleting "macrovision.dll" or some file like that.

Don't own one of those cards, can't verify this.

If it's anything like the ATI 128 or Radeon boards, you can patch the driver file to ignore macrovison... BUT...

Anyone saying that it disables ALL types is full of it.

The software on the Radeon's (and I assume 128's) triggers it's own looping effect when it detects macrovision. Even though technically removing this detection would stop this, I found it really only works with one "kind" or macrovison. There are many!

I ran a test. I tried a tape which had macrovision on it (even had the hologram sticker on it), and it worked after this patch! However, I put in another, and it brightened/darkened, and frames looped on me, just like always. If you run the patch, I expect only 10% of your tapes to record properly.

So I really don't recommend it, I'd just get a "video clarifier" box to patch before the "Video-In" port (Prices range from $30 to $100, make sure you get one that says it covers DVD macrovision also).
