Basically HE uses SBR and LC doesn't. Which is better depends on the bitrate. Most encoders will disable SBR above a certain bitrate automatically anyway. Also depends on what you mean by "better". LC is certainly more supported in terms of playback.

ok thanks for the reply. i'll stick to AAC-LC for encoding as it's more common. i've got an issue with megui for encoding from an AC3 file to Nero Digital AAC stereo. The volume is low even if i choose the option to increase volume automatically. Is there a way to increase it more?

    Hi,
I have also found that "Increase volume Automatically" doesn't do much, Although MeGUI is a great program I use dbPowerAmp and it's mp4 plug-in (which is FAAC) for audio conversions, the "normalize" in dbPowerAmp works very well.

I wouldn't recommend faac for encoding.

http://www.dbpoweramp.com/dmc.htm is where you get dbPowerAmp, don't let the trial version scare you if you use it for AAC encoding then you don't have to buy it, the .mp4 plug-in is at the same site in the "Codec Central" section. As to the post above regarding FAAC I use FAAC and Nero about 50/50 maybe I'm gettin' old but I don't hear any difference in output quality, there were some buggy FAAC builds but this one is rock solid!!
