Hello all. Please can you help? I am trying to convert some AVI movies to DVD using AVI2DVD. I've worked out what to do and everything is ready to convert, but when I press 'Go' a window pops up informing me that the converted movie will be 9gb!!! I don't understand because I set it up to fit on one 4.7gb DVD; so why is it going to be so large?

The AVI is DivX, AC3 audio.

Can anyone help me out here?

    Thanks.

What's the total running time of all of the videos, together?
If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them?

It's only 1 video, and it was 83 minutes long. I've given up on that now, I just couldn't understand the hassles I was getting. I tried ConvertXtoDVD and it worked, like a charm, first try.

Thanks for your help, but I think I'll stick with this from now on.

    Hi,

the resulting video file could still turn up being still only 4.7GB (I guess
that Avi2Dvd just told you it needed 9GB disk space for the whole stuff).

Avi2Dvd creates both a VIDEO_TS folder holding the video (the first 4.7GB)
and an ISO image of the DVD (another 4.7GB).

You will only need one of these, and creation of the ISO image can be turned off.

    Regards Torben.

Ok, thanks for the info, Torben. I should have really tested it, but I know how long these things can take, and I didn't want it all to be a waste of time. Oh well, ConvertXtoDVD is fine for the moment.

One thing though, when I finished the DVD, I popped it into my PC to explore the contents and I found that as well as the converted video and audio, there was a folder with the original AVI in it too. Is that right? Is there any reason why ConvertXtoDVD would put a copy of the original AVI on the disk?

Not that it matters much, I'm perfectly happy with the quality and the DVD, I just thought it was strange.

    Hi again,

well I have never used ConvertXtoDvd so you will have to ask someone else .

I have used both The Film Machine and Avi2Dvd. Older version of those were
quite un-stable, but Avi2Dvd is quite good today. Especially I like
the free HCEnc encoder that is packed together with Avi2Dvd.

But compared to 2 years ago, we are lucky to have so many good free or cheap
    encoders .

    Regards Torben.

You need to check out all the options in ConvertXtoDVD. In the Burning Options section you can add the original file to the DVD (if there is room) or uncheck the box if you don't want it.
