I have a USB hard drive that I'm using with the Philips DVP5982. It's working great, everything plays back well (except WMV and OGM, of course) - but I can't see some of my files and folders. I have MP3 folder several levels deep that I can see, but others I can't see past one or two levels deep. Has anyone found a solution to this? I don't think it's a naming issue, but I may try playing with that just to rule it out.

(BTW, I have searched the forums but have found no answers, though others have posed the question within other threads.)

    Thanks in advance,

    A: Check name lengths don't exceed 64 characters .
B: Can you play files in lower folder groups from main list , as in

    video : mpeg : avi : mkv
    Audio : wma : mp3 : wav : ac3 (lets say folder mp3 is in question)
Pics : jpeg : bmp : png : tiff (are you able to browse through the lower groups without error)

C: how big is this partition to begin with ?

Rename folders above problematic group to z , y , x ... till folders that appear above in main group now appear lower in main group , and try again ... could be Max partition read abilities reached .

    ----

You should stick with dos structure for naming = 8:3 format .

C: how big is this partition to begin with ? I partitioned the whole 250 GB drive, with SwissKnife, as a single partition - FAT32, of course. Is there a better way to approach this?

It's possible the player can't read 250GB, but that is irrelevant at this point. Your player is having trouble accessing the FAT. As was stated in the "renaming folders..." statement above, try renaming folders with short names to find out if the folders in lower levels are then readable. The character limit pertains to each full path, not just the folder and file name. In other words, the number of characters within each subfolder get added to the parent folder name. (example: The parent folder is ALL OF MY FAVORITE MOVIES (25 characters). Folders within that folder now only have a 39 character limit (64-25=39).
