  1. Did a quick search and didn't see this problem covered.

Sometime recently I acquired a bug where all of my MPEG-2 software (PowerDVD, WinDVD, WMP) plays videos looking like they are zoomed in on the middle of the screen (about 50%?). While the players have a zoom capability, I have verified that it is not selected. I've tried reinstalling PowerDVD & WinDVD with no change. This effect is also seen in the "preview" windows of programs like DVD Shrink and Instant Copy.

Any ideas on what could be causing this strange behavior would be greatly appreciated. I assumed it was a codec issue, but I thought reinstalling software would solve that and it didn't.

    TIA,
    clunk

  2. After fiddling with some settings this weekend, I found that the video went back to unzoomed after turning the Hardware Acceration setting down three notches (for PowerDVD 4) in the control panel. Other apps required only one or two notches down. Guess it may be a DirectX 9 issue?

I have the same problem, but it also occurs on MPEG-4 and I suppose other video formats as well.

Your graphics card is Nvidia right?
Microsoft says it should be an Nvidia setting that does it.
I couldn't be bothered looking for it, I uninstalled them altogether. I'm just about to reboot now and I thought I should post while I still have this thread handy.

  4. Roger that ... Nvidia GeForce FX 5900 ultra. Lemme know if you find a setting (other than hardware acceleration) that helps you out.

Try play with vlc, it has builtin codecs. Does it look okey then? If so you might have some codecs problems, uninstall all codec packs if any and just install the codecs you need or ffdshow.
