    Got the the new Sony recorder. Pretty good on whole, but few things that are killing me.

    One is that even though I select a recording mode, let's say, SLP.

    But then I record a bunch of clips at various lenghts. Few minutes here a few minutes there.

    I go to title list, and the clips say, SLP, SP, HQ, ESP. --all over the place. What is making this happening? anyone have any clues? No point in calling Sony.

    What is the model number? THis is a dvd recorder correct? Does it have a hard drive?

    My first suspicion is that you have used the "fit to disc" mode.

    My liteon 1107 model has this option. It will choose a recording mode to try to fit as much time on the disc as possible for the length of the recording. Make sure you have not selected a similar option on your recorder.

    And it never hurts to re-read the manual (or read it for the first time - several small but important steps can be revealed that may not be very intuitive at all).
    Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

    thanks Yoda;
    this is the Sony RDR-GX330

    I'm not aware of this mode. To my knowleadge I set it to SLP.

    On one project ( where I just hit record and let it go for 2 hours) it seems to stick to that.

    On another project of lot of smaller clips, this variance crap happens.

    Don't see Fit to Disc in Index in manual.

    thanks , maybe you are on right track, don't know...
