  1. Hi,

I was wondering how to burn regular PC files on a CD ROM in mode 2, form2, 2324 bytes like a VCD so that you can get more space out of each disk.

    Thanks!

  2. I don't think that you can. Anyone that can definitely show otherwise, please post!

  3. When you drag files in Nero to a VCD, does it save those in mode 2 as well?

  4. I think maybe some image creation tools could let you do that, in theory. I've certainly never tried, since its not exactly a safe way to store data (streaming medias such as CD audio and video are much more error tolerant).

  5. @ Trenton_Net: all non-video files on a VCD are burnt in MODE2 Form1 sectors (which is still 2048 bytes/sector).

@ kinneera: I'm not sure that any MS O/S can actually read MODE2 Form2 sectors as standard data (i.e., without putting a header on or something) -- at least not without hacking/augmenting some driver.

  6. Even if you can it will have errors out the ass in the data, I would be surprised if you got any files intact. The reason is the lessening of the ECC. All vcd's have some bit errors on the disc, but in video a single bit here or there messed up will be undetectable. In a program...well one bit out of wack and the proggy is junk.

  7. Not just a lessening of the ECC, there is NO error correction with Mode2/Form2 sectors. The difference between Form1 and Form2 is 276 bytes of ECC code.

Form2 sectors are only for data that can mask bit errors, like video.

Trying to store anything else in Form2 sectors is foolish.
