Samung DVD-HD960. OMG...this thing rules

The Samsung DVD-HD960 I recently bought is by far the best DVD player I have ever owned in terms of picture quality, simplicity and price. I also own an Oppo 971H, so this is saying lots. The 1080P upconversion produces incredible images, also 1080i is better than expected.

Now the Oppo is really the upcponverting bechmark( at least in the Under $400 range), so I really can't say the Samsung is better, but I can say the Samsung is a complete player and produces a better a movie than the Oppo on my 40" Sony 1080P LCD. On my Plasma the Oppo is slightly better in 1080i.

The Samsung is easily made region free, plays everything I own, has HDMI output and the remote control is better than the Oppo...plus is $50 cheaper. The Samsung also has DCDi technology and DiVX capable like the Oppo.

Is anyone else out there using this Samsung DVD-HD960? I'm interested in hearing other opinions. I was shocked how good this Samsung is, considering I didn't expect much.

Does your player play Video CD Mine does not recognize any VCD/SVCD disks (DivX is already registered) .
And I have to admit, upconvertion to 1080p with Sharp Aquos 52" through NDMI is amazing

I'm sorry I don't own any VCD's or SVCD's......only DVD+R and DVD+R DL. I am surprised it doesn't pay them though.

Interesting - good to see Oppo's features in a mainstream product. Future Shop has the Samsung for CDN$ 200.

yes it plays DVD-R and well.

I think probably as good or better than the LG, as far as the new Oppo..see my new post.
