Don't know what went wrong ripping a DVD but I keep getting the complete movie as unreferenced vobs. I have ripped many DVDs and never had this problem. I can play the whole movie (1 VOB at a time) on my PC and DVDshrink can burn it (only as a complete backup) to DVD Decrypter but it won't play in a DVD player. How do I change the whole movie (5 VOB files) back to referenced VOBs? I think I'm going to feel like a dummy when some one tells me how to do it.

Have you tried any newer ripper? dvd shrink and dvd decrypter doesn't support the newer arccos protection. Try dvdfab decrypter, anydvd or ripit4me.

Yes, I downloaded and tried the newist of each. I only could read the disk with DVDFAB and I kept getting read errors at the end of the last feature VOB (after the credits). After many tries I realized that I had the complete DVD except a small part of the feature credits. The disk is "Monster House" and I wanted to have a copy that the kids could use without fear of scratches. I tried FixVTS, and even looked into the VOB using VOBedit but realized I had no idea what I was doing. I keep thinking there must be flag or command to add to a VOB files to indicate it's referenced data.

Shrink puts the movie in unreferenced data because the IFOs are not completely "normal". Process the full DVD with FixVTS (drag/drop any VOB onto FixVTS, then click "Full DVD", with all options checked). This will solve your problem.

I tried FixVTS. If I check all the box's the file gets chopped down to a small part of the movie. It removes all the unreferenced frames. On the next try I left only the VOB files (no IFO) and after unchecking FixVTS flags, I generated a new IFO but it still left the frames unreferenced. So, I be leave there is something in the VOB files that needs to be altered. What I need to know is how to modify the vob file to referenced all the data contained in the vob file. If I could find a definition of the detail format of a vob file I might be able to zap it with VOBedit.

Unfortunatley, it's not that simple at all. Your problem is that your IFOs and your VOBs are not synchronized, that's really hard to fix by hand. The better way would be to re-rip, making sure that everything is OK. The fact that FixVTS removed almost the entire DVD indicates that the IFOs do not reference all the stuff in the VOB, and that's not normal. Again, because that's really hard to fix, I would re-rip if I were you, using DVD Fab, or RipIt4Me....
