Hi folks, Long ti,e browser first time poster.

I have hit a bit of a stubling block when it comes to making up any dvd's?

No matter WHAT program I try I can only get about 11% converted/made to dvd then my pc hangs up?

Programs I have tried are as follows...

    VSO.ConvertXToDVD.2.1.5.173. - about 11% to 12/14% Differs everytime I use it.

    Super DVD Creator V9.25. - Around 11%.

    Adusoft DVD Creator v2.0. - Around 11%.

Apollo DVD Creator v3.7. - Around 11% mark.

NeoDvdPlus 5 that hasn't given me any hassle for years until now? It does about 2 1/2 episodes ou tof 4 before it also packs up and hangs my pc?

DVD Santa. Cant remember what version? - Around the 30% mark sometimes more differs each time. But this is not what I want.

As you may have noticed from the above tools ALL have the ability to creat a MENU system. This is what I am after. So as to put all my TV series episodes onto DVD..ie

LOST - HEROES - BONES - CSI MIAMI - SUPERNATURAL - EUREKA -GHOST WHISPERER - FIREFLY - .....and so on.

I have installed every codec under the sun and still no joy with any of the above tools? I have deleted ALL codecs went and read which EACH individual tool requires WHICH codec(s).

I seem to be D/L tools just for the sake of D/L them - only to find out that when I get to around 11% of converting .....BANG.....there goes another tool thats no good?

I have still to try ULEADS DVD CREATOR and a few others that I have D/L to test but I fear I will hit the 11% stumbling block again when I try these?

Can anyone offer any help AT ALL on this subject?

Thanks in advance for any help

    BossCat ........aka Wits End lol

PS.....I have even swapped HD's to a HD that does not have XP Service pak 2 installed but still the same results?

Yep. been trying it with the first 4 episodes of the new Sci Fi Show HEROES. I have tried it with a few other shows only to come up with the same 11% hangup?

What format are the video files in? Presumably you are capturing them off air? Capture as either avi using a lossless codec (Huffyuv) or to MJPEG (picvideo).

Try the 30 day free trial of Ulead DVD Moviefactory, it seems to be able to cope with most things.

You should really use something like TMPGenc Xpress, CCE or Canopus Procoder to make a dvd-compliant mpeg-2 video (and audio) first.

And then put that/them into a dvd authoring tool like TMPGenc DVD-Author, DVD Architect, DVD-Lab Pro or DVD Maestro - note that these are not free - and structure your dvd (menu's, chapters, audio/subtitle tracks etc.)
There are many good free alternatives here:

Thanks for the info o the tools spanky123. But Im loking for an all in one thing. I dont want to have umpteen different tools on my PC just for doing the one thing.

I am now trying to get to grips with Ulead Movie Factory. The main thing I need what ever tool to do is to have the option to copy its completed dvd creation to HD and not burn. Then I can shrink it all down to fit onto a 4.5 DVD Disc.

I have been using a tool called NEODVD Plus for years but now this to has packed up and only goes so far before hanging my PC?

If you're having trouble getting to grips with Moviefactory, I suggest you give up now! It has got to be one of the most idiot proof bits of software out there. It can cope with most formats, but as your files are Xvid, I suspect you didn't capture them yourself.

If my suspicions are wrong, try capturing in a sensible format in future. If not, I suggest you read the forum rules......
