    I looked all over the net for an answer..no luck.. helpfully someone can help.

    Network Configuration:
    4 PCs (All Windows XP pro) connected through Netgear Wireless router (Wired all PCs with Cat5 and Cat6 cables).
    Network name: MSHOME (Same with All PCs and sharing)

    1 PC on the Network cannot let anyone peek into C drive, read-only etc, something like this comes on "PC_Doe...is not accessible. You might not have permissions to use this network resource. Contact the Administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions". This PC has the Hand icon for C drive, files and folders, no other PC on the network can browse into this PC to view, read etc; however, this PC can browse to other PC on the network.

    I have removed/disabled the NIC card and reboot with a new fresh still not accessible. Use XP network wizard etc...no avail. any suggestions? Possible a bad NIC card?

    Thanks.

  2. Look at the local security policy for that computer. It will either be that or your wireless connection.

    if theyre xp, each computer needs to be logged in,

    comp1 = username1 with password1
    comp2 = ...etc

    each computer that has shares you need to add to it:the username (with password) that you want to let it access the shares. then for each share you need to add the user to the permissions.

    the username needs to be logged in with password to be able to see the shares. (theres a way to auto-login, forget how).

    What I've also seen a few times on some PC's at the school I work is a registry setting that gets an incorrect value (somehow?) and won't allow network browsing into it any more.

    Run REGEDIT, browse down the tree to

    LOCAL MACHINE\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\LANMANSERVER\PARA METERS

    Look for a parameter on the right pane called IRPStackSize(?). It's normal, default value is 15, but somehow we had machines reset it to 11. Just select it and hit DELETE key, and reboot to use it's default settings again.

    file sharing needs to be turned on for all pc's. you don't necessarily need to have them all networked, but by default, file sharing is initially turned off. check the setting in your network connection properties...

    Also, if you are running a firewall, you'll have to change your settings to allow connections from other computers on your network.

    Hi, all computers on your network must have the same administrator privilages.
    All the computers on your network must have the same username and passoword.

    The other PCs do not have to have the same permissions and accounts, nor do they need to be administrator to browse the shares. Once you get the share set up correctly, the other PCs should be able to access it

    You may also want to setup what is refered to as "mapped drive's" ... I had to do this in order for my accounting product to work between pc's ... without it ... it simple refuse's to allow file transfers between pc's even though everything else is setup correctly .

    As you are sharing a main drive , you need to use mapped option or you will confuse the network .
    Sharing folder's dose not require this fuction .

    All must be on same named network .

    Each pc need's a unique ip (last digit unique to each system)

    Each pc "MUST" have a different user name to login to network (same name's cannot be used ... as the pc thinks user is already logged in)

    Dont forget in control panel , system > computer name should also be unique to each unit .

    Use the basic's for the rest of the setup for the network

    It's why I hate quicken products .

    ----------------------------

    Computer can see other's , but dosent return the favour when all is setup correctly ?

    Check nic ... malfuctioning
    Check cable ... the simplest problem (bad cable)
    Check pin's on hub and affected system nic for problem's ... ie , damaged , obstruction (dust aint handy when it becomes a furball)

  10. This is where I was talking about in the local security policy.
