  1. i don't know what the name is of that format, but it's bigger than 16:9 so on my 16:9 tv i will have black borders at the top and the bottom of the movie... so how can i convert it? in virtualdub? an if yes, then how???

  2. If I had (for example) a 640x272 movie that i wanted to distort so that it filled a 16:9 screen, I'd open it in VirtualDub, use the resize filter (precise bicubic probably, mess around with it) to make it 640x360, but it'd look fairly odd.

    Trivia:

Some movies are extremely widescreen. The DVD of Blade Runner (Director's Cut) is 2.48:1, which is roughly 22.3:9 (or 16:6.5). Interestingly, the original Panavision print was 2.35:1, which they anamorpically took to 2.48:1 for the DVD, I guess.
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

  4. If resizing isn't an option, let's go back to your previous question:

so how can i convert it?
I'm not sure exactly what you mean by convert; do you mean convert to a different codec, like MPEG-1 or MPEG-2? Convert in what way, roughly?
