Hey everyone, I was wondering if you could give me some advice.
Right now, I have a TV capture card (Pinnacle PCTV Rave) with an S-Video input. I use iuVCR to capture from that input to nice lossless HuffYUV Video for Windows files.
So far so good. One problem - I want to get a new card with Component Video inputs for better quality. It seems though that now, everything is DV based. DV is unacceptable to me because of the compressed colours - I love animation and it ends up looking horrible in DV.
What are my choices? I'd ideally love a capture card that let me capture 480i, 576i, 480p and 576p video from Component (and 720p and 1080i if at all possible!) but don't know what my choices are. What program would I use to do the video capture - would iuVCR still work?

Probably not likely to find many component capture cards for much less than $1000US. Check this thread: https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?p=1614358#1614358

Ah, that's a shame - I guess I'll stick with S-Video for the time being then. Thanks for the advice!

I ask, because back when I had satellite tv, and press the Guide button,
the listing was always sharp *and* clear after my ADVC-100 got to it.
I was using S-Video from the RCA sat Receiver to the advc.
Here's an old post I came across, where someone was asking for something
pretty similar to yours. In fact, they seem to be eliminating this
line, because Circuit City is selling them at a clearance price $100
dollars. That's a damn good price, and I was thinking about picking
up one (for the component side) but haven't yet decided. Sometimes,
(at CC) when you see a item marked "clearance" and you bring it up
to the checkout, it is reduced further, though not marked on the price
tag on the shelf. There was something clearanced and picked it up on
account of he price cut, and when I brought it over to the checkout,
they told me it was $30 bucks less. Naturally, I had an even BIGGER
small on my flushed face.
As I was trying to link the topic.. here's an interesting read for you:
--> Why don't conversion boxes use component video inputs?
However, there is also an alternative. If you cosider a DVD Recorder
unit in this idea of yours, I do know that the Polaroid DRM-2001G has
component IN and OUT. And, I've tested this, and it does record the
component video. Only 480i, however. Still, its damn good picture,
for $219 at Walmart. They're the only outlet that carries them.
There are a few topic on the Polaroid. You can search for these if
you are interested.
Any way, good luck in your search and hopefully, final outcome.
