    Hey, I took your guys advice, and used VOB2MPG to convert my Vobs to Mpgs, but whenever I do, the video is severly degraded (despite MPGs and VOBs not requiring any actual conversion...).

    That's interlace effect, and is actually present in most/all mpg intended for TV playback. Obviously you've used different players for the 2 captures, or the player deinterlaces VOBs but not mpg. Wont show once you author the mpg as DVD again, or use a player that deinterlaces.
