I hope this all makes sense. I recently installed a new wireless router, Linksys WRT54G, and I can't seem to get uTorrent to work anymore. I have followed the steps in opening up ports in the router and everything seems fine, I have established a static IP address for my computer and that all seems to be fine, yet uTorrent still wont connect properly, mind you i can still download things but a very limited speeds. The thing that seems to be confusing me is that although I have established my IP address with a 192.168..ect kind of number, when I use the port checker in uTorrent, it says checking port ***** on 69.159... type of number. if that is what my IP address is then why in my router does it only let me open ports on an IP address that starts with 192.168. Anyways hopefully someone can help me with this, and if you need me to elaborate on anything, just let me know,
Thanks.

Have you checked the box that says 'enable Upnp port mapping' under tools?
-
The last tutorial that I had read told me to uncheck that box which did not work, then I tried checking it and that also did not work. So yeah I have tried that.

It is the IP address of the Router that is important because that is the internet gateway. You must set Utorrent to use the IP of the router.

The 192.168.1.x is your internal IP. That is the IP that other machines on your home network need to communicate with that PC. The 69.159.x.x IP is your external IP address. That is the address of the router. Basically port forwarding tells the router that any request coming (from the internet) to the router's IP address get forwarded to that particular PC on your internal network. Probably not the best explanation, but hopefully it helps.

Yes I did check out portforward.com, they explained everything very well, but I just still cant get it to work properly....So is there a way that I can open up the port on the external IP address? Is that what is the problem still?

Your ISP may be blocking bittorrent traffic. Try using non standard port numbers. Enable protocol encryption to mask the packets.

try using different ports, i have the same router as you and my download speeds are pretty good depending on the torrent. you might want to change the ports from the defaults that bittorrent uses to something in between 49152-65535

"I recently installed a new wireless router, Linksys WRT54G, and I can't seem to get uTorrent to work anymore."
I'm afraid I have bad news for you. I recently had exactly the same router and after working properly for a while, it stopped working properly. Did a Google search on the problem and found out that this particular router is notorious in the Torrent circle. Apparently the router retain some of the information that passes through it and unless your willing to try a hack firmware, you will not get this router to work reliable with any Torrent program. Even resetting and trying to upgrade the firmware didn't change the problem. So I junked mine.
I went back to my old SMC router and even though it's not wireless, I haven't had any problems since.
Hope you have more success than I did"Zed's dead, baby." -
Probably something you should read: https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?p=1532148#1532148
But I have no personal experience with this router, so this is just a link, not a opinion.
